New Laws Restrict Minor’s Usage Of Cell Phones While Driving
Effective, October 1, 2013, Minor Drivers in Maryland (Drivers under the age of 18) may not use a “wireless communication device” (a handheld or hands-free device used to access telephone service) while driving, except to contact 9-1-1.
This includes the usage of handsfree or bluetooth devices. Minor drivers should be advised to not use, operate or attempt to operate wireless communication devices, including cell phones while driving.
This law was previously in effect and enforcible only as a secondary offense. On October 1, 2013, the law will become enforcible as a primary offense.
