Insurance Company Body Shops vs. Personal Shops
Using insurance companies’ shops vs. personal shops can be a big decision after an accident. After an accident, you have the choice to use the insurance companies shop or a shop of your own. It is totally the owner’s choice but the pros of using an insurance companies shop out weights the cons.
If you use the insurance companies’ shops, it is faster and more convenient. You take your vehicle, drop it off and get the rental the same day. An estimate is written immediately, parts are ordered and then the work begins. If you choose your own shop, you must take your vehicle to a location and have the estimate done and then take the estimate to the shop of your choice and wait for parts to be ordered before getting a rental. Another pro of using an insurance companies’ shop is that they guarantee the work for life where personal shops do not.
Many owners think that by using the insurance companies’ shops, their vehicle won’t be fixed the right way. That could not be furthest from the truth. Insurance companies’ shops are held to a higher standard because they are guaranteeing their work for life.
Owners should consult with their agents if conflicted when making the decision on whether to use an insurance company shop or a personal shop.
