On Friday January 31st, 2014, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a teenage driver in Rockville Maryland. Montgomery County Police came to the accident scene on Muncaster Mill Road and are investigating whether drag racing played a role in the fatal collision.
One of the involved vehicles mowed down several pedestrians on the sidewalk after losing control leaving one girl dead and another person serious injured.
Witnesses have allegedly indicated they heard cars revving their engines prior to accelerating rapidly when the light turned green and then losing control.
Police suspect drag racing may have played a role. This incident comes less than 24 hours after rock star Justin Bieber was arrested in Florida for drag racing in a Lamborghini. Drag racing among teenage drivers appears to be rising in popularity of late and presents a very dangerous risk to those in proximity to such races.
The teen drivers involved in this race may face serious civil negligence lawsuits and/or even wrongful death lawsuits if they are found to have been negligently or recklessly racing their vehicles down the roadway at the time of the accident.
